Warcraft Less Traveled #67 – Island of Doctor Lapidis

Episode #67: The Island of Doctor Lapidis and Gillijim’s Isle are two forgotten subzones that never made it past the early alpha-testing of World of Warcraft. Found in the fatigue waters off the southwestern Stranglethorn Vale coast, the Island of Doctor Lapidis may have been an early attempt for Troll-specific leveling (originally marked for levels 10-22). Appearing on a few official game maps, Doctor Lapidis island shared the standard STV landscape and environmental textures. Although never activated with quests, the NPCs found on the island included Forest Trolls, Jungle Trolls, Ice Trolls, Humans, and Naga. The Island of Doctor Lapidis was removed from the official release of WoW, yet until patch 4.0.1a, it was possible to travel to the open-water location and have the island’s subzone title appear… even though the island was nowhere to be found!

It’s been sometime since I have seen Gillijim’s Isle, it was beautiful and very strange in the layout, it kind of feels like Goldshire meets Stormwind, there was a tall hill with a house on it, much like the house you see in the Death Knight’s starting zone where you have to kill the mayor, actually it’s pretty much the same thing.

Down in the middle of this odd little island town you can see a statue of Uther, the same model that is used in Stormwind today.

I was able to see this island in patch 3.3.5, back when WoTLK was still the newest exspantion, though I was only able to do with with the help of a content patch that rebuilt is island the spot, without said patch you would just simply fall through and land in water.

I never used the patch on retail WoW since I knew it would have gotten me banned, so I booted up an old privet server and tested it out, it worked.

There is also another place that you need the patches for, that would be Old Outlands, it seems to be a test of what Blizzard wanted Outlands to look like, this is no longer in the game, and can’t be reached by any means other then having a privet server with said patch.

I’ll try my best to dig of any pictures that I might have of these places, and if I am able to, I’ll be sure to send them your way.

Also, if you have any questions on these things, or other places that I have see during my travels as a broke WoW player, please feel free to email me, or contact me via my Deviant Art account where I keep pictures of things that I have seen in WoW.

    Greetings Lichlore!
I would be very interested in seeing any of your personal images from your travels to Gillijim, Lapidis, or any other location you have traveled to over the years. I would be thrilled to add a link from this site over to a photo album or alternate site (if you have them housed elsewhere).
Thanks for taking the time to share your information. I may take your advice in the near future and investigate the Old Outlands…
    Best regards, Skolnick the Lost

Is it me or does that sound strikingly like the goblin starting area?
